Crawford Report - how do we get more Australian
s participat ing in sport? In my opinion this is the single most important question we can ask about the sporting landscape in Australia, and it's part of the broader view of sport that the Crawford Report embraces.
Three chapters of the Report deal with aspects of this question:
- Building the capacity of our National Sporting Organisations [PDF of the report section]
- Building community sport with people and places [PDF of the report section]
- Ensuring Australia's sports system is open to all [PDF of the report section]
There are clearly no 'quick-fix' solutions, and participation strategies are a major challenge for many National Sporting Organisations (NSOs), who have in the past focused too heavily on elite performance and winning medals.
But by developing more support for volunteerism across Australian sport we can encourage more people to be involved in our sporting landscape and in turn help the NSOs manage their participation strategies.
And one of the ways to increase the number of Australians participating in sport is to clearly identify those who are currently excluded from the sporting landscape and find ways to get them involved in sport.
So what do you think - how do we get more Australians participating in sport?
