Crawford Report - which sports deserve our funding dollars?
After 14 months of deliberation the Crawford Report has returned its findings about Australian sport and there's plenty to talk about.
In the first chapter, 'Defining our national sports vision' [PDF of the report section] the report touches on the way decisions are currently made about which sports in Australia receive funding from Government.
The report criticises the decision to allocate large sums of money to elite Olympic sports (a gold medal is estimated to cost $15 million) when so many other sports with much larger participation bases are grossly underfunded.
But which sports deserve the money and what criteria do we use to decide that?
The Report suggests prioritising those sports "which capture the country's imagination and represent its spirit and culture" and goes on to say "there should be debate about which sports carry the national ethos, are a part of the national psyche."
So what do you think - which sports are the most deserving of our funding dollars?
