  • What would you do? Test yourself with this list of cricket's ethical dilemmas?

The Australian Sports Commission website lists a number of ethical dilemmas, which cricketers might face. What would you do in each of these situations? I don't think they're all black and white, so it'd be interesting to hear answers that reflect some fo the shades of grey.

    1. Is the batsman, in the action of ‘walking’, showing great sportsmanship by acknowledging to the umpire they believe they are out, or is the batsman showing disrespect to the umpire by not allowing him to adjudicate on the decision?
    2. If a batsman is respected for ‘walking’ when they know they are out, should the batsman be given the same respect for standing their ground when they know they are not out, but have been given ‘the finger’ by the umpire?
    3. Should individuals be given the opportunity to decide if they walk or not, or should the team decide as a whole what their stance will be?
    4. Does the action of one player, in either walking or not walking, influence or pressure other team mates in their decision to walk or not walk?

  • What would I do? hmmm

I think that a batsman walking can be seen both ways.  It depends on the level of match.  Instead of looking at it ethically, perhaps looking at it in the professional level of play.  Maybe in a local match with friends it is ok to walk, but where there is an official umpire, all decisions should be given to the umpire. So the more professional the game, the more respect each player gives  the game by sticking to their roles ie. the Umpire calls it and the batters, bowlers and fielders play their positions/roles on the field.

By the way....The Sydney Morning Herald has an article in todays paper that clearly shows a Mexican Football player who doesn't have any values in Sport. Check out the article below.
