The Serena and Federer Verbal Outrage
Watching the previously-concluded U.S. Open was a feast. I've never expected so many upsets and emotional drama. I've got to admit that I was disappointed with Rafael Nadal's semi-final performance against Argentinian underdog, Juan Martin Del Potro. Nadal had the perfect excuse to lose although, he's the kind of competitor who doesn't use physical handicap as an answer to media personnel..
What surprised me was Serena Williams and Roger Federer's unprofessional verbal onslaught against tennis officials. First, we have the defending champion Serena against Kim Clijsters. Clijsters, who just came back after an almost two-year hiatus, defeated Serena Williams via default. She could also be credited by defeating Venus in the earlier stage of the tournament. After the incident, Serena was fined for the tirade that had ensued.
Finally, we have this year's Grand Slam champion, Roger Federer. This guy is the epitome of modern tennis and, considered as the sport's best player who has ever held a racket. What do you know, he suddenly snapped in the heat of competition and gave one away to Del Potro. This year's U.S. Open was a disappointing end to such a very competitive and fun Major run.
Don't be surprised if someone will come up with controversial essay writings about their vehement on-court behavior. Some famous players who were on the height of their respective careers got smashed because of the power of sensational media..
I just hope that this is not the swan song for these two great (but talky) tennis superstars.
